The board and Steel Industry Essay 1. Rundown and expound some key issues confronting NUCOR. Key vital issues testing NUCOR incorporate enactment identified with environmental change, fluctuating expense and gracefully of iron metal and scrap steel, expanding measure of steel imports, creation innovation enhancements and financial shortcoming. Changes in enactment could impactsly affect the firm’s various creation offices and could be exorbitant to get consistent. The changes in both the expense and gracefully of iron metal and scrap steel legitimately sway the firm’s gainfulness since it is hard to give those expenses to the clients because of the cost driven degree of rivalry in the steel business. The ascent of ease steel imports builds the local U.S. flexibly which squeezes NUCOR. The firm should remain at the front of mechanical advances for the creation and handling of steel so as to remain serious. Regular for some organizations and ventures, financial shortcoming is an issue that challenges NUCOR’s methodology since it can affect the interest for its respectable top notch steel items. 2. What are the key components of NUCOR’s minimal effort methodology? What elements have helped NUCOR accomplish a minimal effort position? Key methodology components for NUCOR: Moderate money related quality Group based culture and decentralized tasks Vertical reconciliation Broadening Advancement †data innovation, speed of configuration process Closeness to significant clients Monetarily steady representatives †higher than normal wages and non-optional impetus programs Representative strengthening Trustworthiness and receptiveness inside the organization No representative lay-offs Elements that have added to NUCOR’s minimal effort position: Strong, long haul associations with outside gatherings for administrations, for example, innovative work, buying proposals, promoting, advertising, andâ legal or ecological guideline consistence Stepping endlessly from the steel industry’s convention of balanced cargo and offering all clients the business terms of cost in addition to genuine delivery costs Not offering clients volume limits Armada of almost 150 trucks for item conveyance Vertical reconciliation from joist fabricating into steel creation Steel creation using small scale plant innovation Considering workstations liable for distinguishing bottlenecks to build proficiency Refined PC program is utilized to figure exact offers Upgrades in the softening and throwing forms for steel creation including â€Å"continuous casters† Level authoritative chain of command 3. It would be ideal if you apply Porter’s Five Forces model to the steel business. At the same time, plainly recognize who is behind each power and what the effect is of each power on the gainfulness of the business (high/medium/low). Toward the end, additionally give a synopsis of all the five powers and propose whether you think the steel business is appealing or not. The haggling intensity of purchasers is high because of negligible item separation, low exchanging costs, overabundance limit of steel creation and enormous volume buys. The danger of substitutes is medium since substitutes, for example, aluminum and plastic would not give proportionate quality and toughness however could in any case fill a similar need as steel. The haggling intensity of providers is low principally because of the item being a product, high proportion of imported crude materials, and low exchanging costs. The danger of new participants is low because of the pattern toward combination and high measure of capital required to build up creation/preparing offices equipped for accomplishing economies of scale. Contention is exceptional in light of the fact that the steel business is developed with little separation among items and mergers both in the U.S. what's more, over the globe making goliath organizations with profound pockets. As a rule, I think the steel business is ugly basically because of its development, huge capital necessities and extreme cost based rivalry that eventually lead to low benefit. 4. What are NUCOR’s assets and capacities? Assets: Group based hierarchical culture Partnerships with outside gatherings for help administrations Joint endeavors with Physical areas of plants in nearness to key clients Faithful representatives involved creation laborers, office heads, support and authoritative staff, and senior administration Imaginative small scale factory innovation Own armada of almost 150 trucks for dispersion PC program to produce offers Plants, factories, hardware, and apparatus Notoriety Budgetary capital Capacities: Management’s reasoning and initiative abilities Effective quality control process Level hierarchical pecking order and motivating force program that keeps the workforce helpful and gainful Securing the board Multidivisional coordination Speed of configuration process 5. Expound on a portion of the key exercises you have gained from the case investigation. The most huge exercise I gained from this case investigation is that administration style and culture can be vital to being serious. These truly are the two things that will give NUCOR economical serious advantageâ because they are the most hard to track down and emulate. Building such a noteworthy representative reliability requires some investment and can't be imitated without any problem. Moreover, the minimization of the corporate organization is something that causes representatives at all levels to feel great and as though they are a piece of a family. I think there are numerous organizations, including the one I work for that could truly profit by embracing this administration style.

Personal Counseling Cross Cultural Counseling - 1534 Words

RUNNING HEAD: CROSS CULTURAL COUNSELING 7 Cross Cultural Cross-Cultural Counseling Sophia Henry American Public University Abstract For this assignment I chose counseling American Indians and Alaska Natives because it is the one group I have not studied or been around much. There is a huge population of American Indians and Alaska Natives in Washington where I currently live. I stay approximately 30 minutes from an Indian reservation. A few of the kids that attend the school I work at are Native American or an Alaska Native. I realized that when I first started working at the school that I knew nothing of their culture or values even though my great grandmother was a Native American. I have taken this opportunity to learn more about them as well as how to counsel those students. Once I finish school, I would love to work as a school counselor in one of the schools and I may even get a chance to work at the school on the reservation, so this assignment came at a good time. American Indians just like all ethnic groups have a family structure, cultural and spiritual values, strengths, and challenges. In this paper I will start off with the history of Native Americans. Ships of slaves- the middle passages free essay sample

The ships of slaves-The Middle Passages documentary, reinforced chapter 2 in our textbook. The documentary appropriately identified The Middle Passage; the black holocaust. The similarities are apparent. The documentary started by retelling the story of the Portuguese prince, Henry the Navigator, and how he acquired 12 slaves which started the initiation of the middle passage. I enjoyed how music, dance, poetry, and storytelling all were fused together to portray a powerful message. The universal theme and ending message that grabbed from the documentary was in order for us to regress forward as a culture, to understand who and what we are, it is important to understand where we came from and what we have had to endure. It truly awakened my senses. The sound of metal on metal resulting from the toiling of the shackles unloving hugging the limbs of the slaves is what resonates to me from watching the documentary. Two very distinct contrasts of sounds were presented in this documentary that echoed in my head. We will write a custom essay sample on Ships of slaves- the middle passages or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page One is the sound of happiness and strength, it is the sound of beautiful African people dancing and moving. Free birds expressive in the wind with their bodies. Why do they dance? They dance because they have happiness from within that cannot be broken. They dance for their ancestors and they dance for their family legacy. They dance to release strength and power thats natural from their cultural beginning. Brown bodies with elegant curves dance in the darkness. In contrast, heard the sound of hate the sound of hurt and pain.I heard the sound of feet tired of walking to a place of unknown for unknown reasons. Raw feet heard, bleeding pain of misery and peeling away slowly the happiness from walking bare foot on the ground that once supported them. The walk heard was slow and dark as if every step was a decision to be obedient or break free. I heard the metal clattering together and heard years and years of pain to come. Those were the sounds that I gathered. Family and family bonds are part of the rich history of African culture. The Europeans wanted to civilize the African people who were already more civilized than the others. They resided in peaceful villages and were hunted like animals. The trade was used to distinguish classes. What makes one person greater or lesser than another? Who is granted the right to make that decision? As was mentioned in the documentary, I think of the humiliation the women oaken as slaves had to endure or attempt to combat. They must have felt worthless in a different unimaginable way as their bodies were taken. They must have felt deep sorrow as their children were left alone to wander about the forest. They must have felt their femininity diminish as they were forced to live in filth the horrible conditions naked with no dignity. I cannot even fathom. It was the training and natural blood of the Africans that enabled the majority to overcome the obstacles as much as they could. They were trained to survive, endure, to develop strength from within, and warfare to protect their African heritage.

Christology Essays - Christology, Heresy In Christianity

Christology In relation to the humanity, he is one and the same Christ, the son, the Lord, the Only Begotten, who is to be acknowledged in two natures, without confusion, without change, without division and without separation. - Creed of Chalcedon (A.D. 451) For thousands of years the true nature of Jesus Christ has been widely debated. Christology is the theology devoted to studying the human and divine natures and roles of Jesus Christ. Many interpretations and viewpoints have been formed and disputed since the death of Christ up to present times. Three major councils were organized to discuss the teachings and understandings of Jesus early in the first millennium. The discussions at Nicaea (A.D. 325), Constantinople (A.D. 381), and Chalcedon (A.D. 451) were developed into creeds that explained their belief in terms of the nature of Christ. These three creeds insisted that Christ was fully a man and fully God, not one or the other or part of both. There were many other early perspectives of Christology in the Christian church. Each viewpoint had its individual varying forms and degrees. These are the basic convictions of the most prominent ones: Docetism: This doctrine preached that Christ was of a divine nature and only seemed to have a human form. He appeared to suffer on the cross but was in fact incapable of feeling human misery. The viewpoint stems from one that insists all matter is evil (dualism); therefore, Christ could simply not be human because he could not be evil. The name derives from the Greek word, dokein, to seem, to appear. It was finally denounced at the Council of Chalcedon. Arianism: Arius, a priest in Alexandria, taught that Christ was part of the Trinity, but not as divine as God. Since God supposedly created Christ, he could surely not be as holy as him. It was acknowledged that Christ was not of a human nature, but not of a total divine nature either. He existed simply by the will of God. This viewpoint was denounced at both the Councils of Nicea and Constantinople. Adoptionism (Ebionism): The idea of a Trinity was opposed in this doctrine. The Adoptionists contend that Christ was a man who was adopted by God and made holy at his baptism. He first had a human nature, and developed into a deity after he was baptized. After several tries, Adoptionism was successfully denounced at the end of the 8th century. Patripassianism: The Patripassians believe that God manifested himself as a Man through Christ his son, and that they are truly the same divine being. The word Patripassian comes from the Latin words, patris, Father, and passus, to suffer. Nestorianism: Nestorius, archbishop of Constantinople, preached that Christ had two separate natures, human and divine, which acted together in an individual but were never actually united. He also refused to acknowledge Mary as the Mother of God because Christ was born as a man. This was denounced and Nestorius exiled from the empire. Apollinarianism: Apollinarius, a bishop of Laodicea, taught that Christ was of a human nature whose body was inhabited by a divine soul. The divine nature actually took over the earthly mind and in this way, Christ became a glorified model of humanity. Although several councils condemned this doctrine, it survived until the 5th century. Monophysitism: The general belief of this doctrine is that Christ had only a divine nature. There are four basic methods that this was taught: the divine nature overtook the human nature; the divine nature was overshadowed by the humanity of Christ; an exclusive nature was formed by the combination of the human and divine natures; or there is a balance between the two that cannot be questioned. Gnosticism: Generally, this held that spirit is good, matter (including humanity) is bad, and salvation can only be achieved as spirit is separated from matter by means of a higher knowledge. Christ came from God as an inferior being but could not have had an earthly body because it would have been evil. There are two variations here: that Christ only appeared to have a body, or that Christ took over the body of a man who had died. Marcionism: Marcion, son of the bishop of Sinope, disputed traditional Jewish teachings. He felt God was evil and not the Father of Christ. He viewed Christ as innately good

None - Essay Example Similarly, the same theme is portrayed in Elizabeth’s fiction; â€Å"No One’s a Mystery† in the form of boredom. Persistence of boredom in the characters’ lives results to desperation. The old man and the older waiter tend to find nothing satisfactory in life while according to Elizabeth; Jack seems to no longer value his marriage life as it has become extremely predictable and monotonous. Life seems to have lost its meaning from all spheres; religion is described as nothing giving people no place to take refuge. The characters try to find places or things where they can forget about the boredom, but these sanctuaries seem only to last for a short while. In A well-lighted room, time limits the duration in which the old man and the waiter can stay in the well-lighted clean cafà © because the restaurant will eventually be closed (8). Time is also highlighted by Tallent. Jack gives his young lover a five-year diary (10; par. 1). This desribes the limited tim e their romance might last. Jack is bored with his wife and tries to find some happiness in the relationship with an 18-year-old woman. He seems convinced that the relationship won’t last even to the second year yet ironically he gives his girlfriend a five-year diary. In both stories, the characters seem to have found something that they get comfort from, but only for a short time. Ernest description of the theme of despair is apparent to the reader because his two characters tend to be experiencing the same emptiness (Becnel and Bloom 148). Alternatively, alcoholism features in both stories. The old man in a clean well- lighted room is a good customer at the cafà ©, and he is always the last customer to leave the cafà ©. Similarly, Jack is an alcoholic as implied from the tequila they have been drinking with the girlfriend (Tallent 10). Loneliness and unhappiness tend to be the main course of the alcoholic tendencies of both

Politeness and Intercultural Communication Essay

Politeness and Intercultural Communication - Essay Example Much emphasis is placed on the non-verbal form of communication. For example, the Japanese place emphasis on their bowing, not only as a sign of hospitality, but also as a way to communicate or get the attention of others. In Indonesia, the offering of beverages or refreshments, and the timing and the manner of drinking them helps indicate whether the talk of business is over or is still ongoing. Politeness in the United States is generally leaning towards the verbal, and will typically be very open or explicit. One form of politeness in the United States is the usual regard of always saying ‘thank you’ as proper courtesy for being given help. In the United States, it is polite to address people in the workplace setting with honorifics such as ‘Ms.’, ‘Mrs.’ or ‘Mr.’ among others. Such practice is especially important to superiors. Lastly, another form of politeness in the United States is the practice of keeping distance when it comes to another individual’s personal space, especially in a workplace

Sedaris Essay Through the Readers Eyes Essay Example for Free

Sedaris Essay Through the Readers Eyes Essay David Sedaris’ â€Å"Me Talk Pretty One Day† adds a comedic touch to his experience of learning a foreign language. The essay takes place in France where he is taking a French class to learn the language; he believes this class will be simple. His professor verbally attacks each student, which defeats Sedaris’ spirit for learning the language. He recognizes his language skills are not up to par with his classmates so he studies every night. He then stops participating in class because he feels that everything he says is incorrect. Sedaris realizes learning a language can’t be done with just textbook concepts but with understanding the language itself through experience. Sedaris uses descriptive language and comedy to appeal to his audience and keep them interested. Sedaris uses descriptive language to keep the readers interest through the story. When a classmate fails to know a verb tense Sedaris described that â€Å"the teacher poked her eyelid with a freshly sharpen pencil† (585). Sedaris uses words that describe the scene exactly as the reader would see it through their own eyes. He uses colorful words to paint a picture in our minds. This descriptive language keeps the reader alert to what is happening in the essay. Also in Sedaris’ essay, since he does not completely understand what his teacher says he creates jargon to substitute for some of the words. Sedaris’ writes, â€Å"If you not meimslsxp or lgpdmurct by this time, then you should not be in this room† (555). Having jargon in the essay keeps the readers engaged because at first glance you may over look these words, but looking deeper you see that Sedaris really doesn’t understand the key words his professor is saying. Sedaris essay is uneventful and could be characterized as dry but with his humor it helps bring the essay to life to keep the reader on their toes. His style of writing grabs the reader’ attention and keeps it throughout the essay by using humor and painting a picture. Worked Citied Sedaris, David. Economics and Poetry - Cotton And Corn: A Dialogue? by Thomas Moore :: essays research papers

What really makes economics and society flow nicely together? Economics can be described as the social science that deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. Society is described as the social relationships among us. The answer is always changing as well as the economical and sociological thoughts behind it as well. This paper will relay a couple economic views from the poem â€Å"Cotton And Corn: A Dialogue† by Thomas Moore (1779-1852), an Irish poet. Should people be allowed to trade with whomever they want to? We’ve been doing it for thousands of years. There should always be fare/free trade, even if the government manipulates it a little bit. If there is an unhappy consumer out there, there is at least one unhappy firm. People should be able to trade freely and hardly controlled by the government. Too much of the time the government regulates it too much, and we lose some of our free trade rights, as this poem illustrates. As Franà §ois Quesnay believed the idea of â€Å"Laissez-Fair,† the government should have very little control, if no control over the economy at all. The government will then regulate heavily, create high tariffs, embargoes, and other forms of monopoly to accumulate wealth. This poem was written about the famed Corn Laws that took place in England, that limited the trade of corn to other countries if international rates fell bellow a certain value. The government didn’t want wealth to leave the country, as they stopped importing corn, wouldn’t export their corn out, and monopolized peasants to buy the countries corn with a regulated price. This is third idea, is a form of mercantilism. Hoarding a countries wealth, and building up power. Thomas Moore addresses some of these views by introducing thoughts about fare trade, how the government can control/manipulate trade, and mercantilism, in his poem about the Corn Laws. The question is then, with all of this go vernment supervision and control over trade, how do economies prosper and stay alive and well? One of many reasons that keep economies going is through fare trade. This poem deals with the unscrupulous Corn Laws (1689-1846); which deal with protecting English landholders by encouraging the export and limiting the import of corn when prices fell below a fixed point. The poem speaks of the greedy side of Squire Corn and the famished Poor Cotton. â€Å"Great Squire, if it isn't uncivil To hint at starvation before you, Look down on a poor hungry devil, And give him some bread, I implore you!" This line is Poor Cotton urgently begging Squire Corn to trade him some corn (food) for his fabric of cotton.

Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Processes Essay

When assessing the strengths and weaknesses of my company’s recruiting, selecting and onboarding processes, there are definitely good processes and areas that need some significant improvement. As with most companies, they have to deal with a large number of applicants so it is easy to understand why some areas of the hiring process may become neglected. It is perfectly okay to admit there are deficiencies in a process or program as long as steps are taken to rectify the deficient areas in order to enhance the program. First of all, my company does very well in the recruiting and selecting of candidates because they are very critical of their choices. Recruiting is mostly done through employee referral and social networking sites and internet job boards. The requirements are spelled out very clearly online for each position that is listed and the recruiters make sure they select candidates who fit the proper criteria. An initial interview is performed by the recruiter to see if you are a viable candidate and if they believe you have what it takes as well as the proper credentials then they will forward your name and resume to the hiring manager where you will sit through a more thorough interview to determine if you are truly the best candidate for the position. All of this is a very good process to make sure qualified candidates are being brought into the organization; however, once the new hires are brought into the organization there is a serious breakdown in the hiring process and it is with the onboarding. If there is one area where my company desperately needs to make improvements, it is in the onboarding process because there really isn’t much of one. It is essential that every successful organization establish and maintain an effective onboarding program to ensure each new employee is properly welcomed into the organization and feels as if they belong there. Without proper onboarding, new employees can become quickly frustrated because there are many new things to learn in a new job and they aren’t being shown what to do. All too often it is assumed that new employees were hired because they know what they are doing, therefore nobody bothers to show them the ropes. Just because someone has all of the credentials for the position does not mean they understand how the process plays out within a specific organization. I know that when I was hired at my company I was left hung out to dry. Nobody showed me how to do anything for the first couple of weeks and I quickly became frustrated. I had just been hired and I already wanted to quit the position. So what should be done in the onboarding process to make sure each new employee feels a sense of worth and importance? New employees should go through a company orientation that explains all facets of the company and they should also be given a guided tour of where they will be working so they know exactly where all of the essential equipment and personnel are located in order to alleviate much of the newcomer stress. Most of all, new hires should be assigned a sponsor who will assist them while they are making the transition into the company so the new employee knows that if they are having any troubles or need questions answered, there is someone there to assist them. These simple actions will make a new employee feel much less stress and anxiety while transitioning into their new position and it will leave a lasting impression on them which may persuade them to stay on with the company longer than what they probably would if they were just left to fend for themselves. So, the bottom line is this†¦don’t just have a hiring process that has â€Å"some† good aspects to it with some areas needing serious attention. Make sure all the areas (recruiting, selecting and onboarding) are given the proper attention so the program is well-rounded. This will go a long way in retaining employees and giving them a positive attitude about the company they have just been assigned to.

Social Networkings Negative Effect on Society - 1042 Words

Henry Yelkin Social Networking’s Negative Effect on the Young of Today Social networking sites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram are changing the youth’s focus from productive activities, to the indulgence of their adolescent egos. Many teenagers growing up today have chosen to pursue accomplishments that hold no meaning, such as getting 100 likes on their photos. What is worse is that the youth subconsciously know that having this-many followers or that-many likes will get them nowhere yet they still devote so much of their time to social networking sites. These social networking sites take a psychological toll, as well as a toll on their social lives. It also leaves people prone to other dangers such as cyber bullying. The sad part was that Josh was just a fictional character, created by a mother of one of Megan’s former friends.† (Network Conferece). More ha rm than good has come out of these social networking sites and something should be done to solve these problems. There are a couple of ideas that I have personally thought about to solve the problems brought upon by these social networking sites, some more drastic than others. The most drastic, and probably most effective solution is the immediate shutdown of Twitter and Tumblr. Instagram is harmless because it is just people sharing photographs and Facebook will have an age restriction where the person has to be at least 16 years of age, perhaps some sort of identification would need to be entered, such as a permit ID number or a social security number. Twitter and Tumblr are the more harmful ones because their primary focus is feeding the egos and narcissistic tendencies of kids. A second possible solution does not involve any type of shutdown, but rather an age restriction barring younger teens from gaining access to these websites.
